India's performance in the Asiad so far has been largely disappointing. TOI takes a look at the hits and misses after the first week of Asian Games.
The Hits
Jitu Rai (Shooting)
The Nepal-born shooter is on a high. Having won a record five international medals since June besides booking a Rio Olympics berth, Rai was expected to give India a golden start to the Asiad campaign and he did. The Commonwealth Games gold medallist secured the 50m air pistol gold in Incheon and remains the lone gold medallist for India after one week of competition.

Saurav Ghosal (Squash)
Saurav Ghosal has been India's No 1 men's squash player for a long time now. The two-time Asian Games bronze medallist (2006 Doha, 2010 Guangzhou) narrowly missed out on becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal in squash. But his silver was also the first for the country in the Games.
Women's badminton team
A fighting India went down to hosts South Korea 1-3 in the women's team badminton semifinals to settle for a bronze. It was India's first medal in badminton since the bronze won by the men's team in Seoul, 1986. It was a tough draw from the start and the team overcame strong teams like Thailand on the back of some solid performances from Saina Nehwal and
PV Sindhu to reach the semis.
Dushyant Chauhan (Rowing)
Chauhan grabbed a bronze in the men's lightweight single sculls to shine on a day when all other Indian athletes faltered. The little known Haryana lad, in fact, had a good chance of winning the gold as he led from 500m onwards till the last 200m. But strong northerly winds and rain put paid to his hopes. It was a creditable feat nonetheless.
Sanathoi Devi (Wushu)
Sanathoi gave India a bronze in women's sanda (52kg). The Manipuri girl lost 0-2 to Chinese Luan Zhang in the semifinal. It was India's fifth medal in wushu, a sport that is almost unknown in the country.
The Misses
Manoj Kumar (Boxing)
While Manoj recently won the legal battle against the government over his omission from this year's Arjuna Awards list, he failed to clear the first hurdle at the Asiad, crashing out in the first round itself.
Tarundeep Rai (Archery)
He is the only Indian archer to have won an individual medal in the Asian Games when he won a silver at Guangzhou in 2010. But Rai could manage only a 22nd spot in the qualification round with 1300 points in Incheon, behind teammates Atanu Das and Jayanta Talukdar, failing to get into the medal round.
PV Sindhu (Badminton)
The 19-year-old made giant strides in 2014, eclipsing her senior Saina Nehwal in terms of international success. Her medal-winning efforts in the Commonwealth Games and World Championships had raised expectations before the start of the Asiad campaign. Though she helped India clinch a bronze in women's team event, her campaign in the individual event was cut short in the second round by Indonesia's Bellaetrix Manuputty.
Sathish Sivalingam/Ravi Kumar/Sukhen Dey (Weightlifting)
All eyes were on the lifters as they had brought home as many as 12 medals from the Glasgow CWG last month. But a week into the Games, the weightlifting contingent has failed to win even a single medal. While Ravi Kumar and Sukhen Dey failed to manage a top-six finish, Glasgow gold medallist Sathish didn't even turn up for his event due to fever.
Heena Sidhu (Shooting)
Heena, the first Indian shooter to be ranked No.1 in the world in April this year, failed to make it to the final in 10m air pistol after finishing a lowly 13th in the qualifiers. Heena's performance left her fans disappointed even though she clinched the 25m air pistol team bronze along with Rahi Sarnobat and Anisa Sayyed.
